Update as of November 8th can be found at http://www.thebrewsite.com/2011/11/07/short-snout-brewing-funded.php
Brian VanOrnum of Short Snout Brewing in Milwaukie recently launched his Kickstarter campaign in an effort to make his dream of becoming a bona fide nano-brewery a reality. Plans of opening up a small production brewing facility in Milwaukie, Oregon are being funded through the campaign (which you can see here).
Here, Emily of #pdxbeergeeks chats with (fellow #pdxbeergeek) Brian to discuss the ideas and inspiration behind Short Snout Brewery.
How long have you lived in Milwaukie?
5 years
Where’s your favorite place to eat in your neighborhood?
Pietro’s Pizza, Canby Asparagus Farm, and Mike’s Drive-In.
Do you have a favorite coffee shop in the neighborhood?
I don’t drink coffee
Do you have a favorite pub or place to get a beer (other than your own backyard) in Milwaukie?
I wish I would have an answer to that. I think that’s more evidence that Milwaukie needs something like Short Snout. I don’t get out much, and when I do it’s in to Portland.
Have you seen changes in Milwaukie over the last few years?
I have. I think the downtown area is really coming alive and has great potential. If I could I’d love to open the pub on Main St.
What is your vision for the brewery and how it will fit into Milwaukie?
Long term it’s as I mentioned above. I’d love to open a place in downtown Milwaukie. I actually drive through main street a bit and imagine what it would look like and where. There was a corner space for lease for a long time and I was just kicking myself that I couldn’t do anything with it, but the space would have been perfect. With light rail coming to Milwaukie (and possibly baseball) it would be great to be down there. And I think the area is itching for a brewery. There was a poll taken a few years back regarding what folks wanted to see in the downtown area. The #1 or #2 answer was a brewpub. Maybe I can make that happen!
What can your community do to help you make Short Snout Brewery (and their dream of a downtown brewpub) a reality?
Head on over to the Kickstarter page and give what they can. Every penny counts. And spread the word. Tell your friends and neighbors.
If you haven’t already, give it a look see – recently Brian stated that if each of his Facebook fans contributed only $8, he’d hit his mark! Imagine if all of us in the community could donate a small amount or a few moments to retweet his campaign to our own audience! The ripple effect could be outstanding, and we’d be proud to say Short Snout was truly community supported! Share on your wall, tweet, or promote on your favorite social network if you’re so inclined, and join us in wishing Brian & Short Snout Brewing the best of luck in the new endeavor!
