I grew up in NEP. (North East Portland.) Ever since my beloved Circus Burger got torn down to make way for Albertson’s, Arctic Circle left us in the dusk and Burger Island burned down (tragic chain of events for a youngster) I have been at a complete loss for a good down to earth burger and fry-fest. I sit here, having devoured every last bite of a generously portioned meal, feeling full and satisfied, a euphoria I have not felt since childhood.
To be fair, they had me at “Here you go, kiddo” when they handed me my big white paper bag of fried goodness. I rushed home and tore open the bag – and to my utter delight….fry sauce. Completely unsolicited. FRY SAUCE. Oh Arctic Circle…gone but not forgotten you are. The onion rings were cooked to a crisped perfection, this coming from a total ring snob. Next up – chicken sammy. I asked for the spicy sauce, and to my delight – it added a hint of spice but not overwhelming. The slab of chicken is huge, and the prices are really good considering the portions.
Steak Shack – you are going directly onto my editors suggestions map – right after I clean your aftermath off my tingling fingers.
